as grave as the grave はE-DICで調べたのですが、
他の方でもE-DICを使っている方がいらっしゃるのでしょうか。
では、Writers' Workshop 2月号いってみましょう。
今回ははE-DIC、英辞朗に加え、Googleも活用して英訳しました。
U.S. Department of Energy announced that residential
natural gas prices are expected to be 50 percent higher
than they were last winter. Recently costs of gas,
heating and electricity have increased. Furthermore,
monthly disbursements such as mortgage loan have
increased because of rising interest rates. Because
of these reasons, U.S. households have been losing
money to spend on themselves.
Let me explain an example of civic life. I visited
the house of one of my friends, Mr. and Mrs. F, who
live in the suburbs of Washington, DC, on a weekend
in early August. The house is in a satellite town that
is thirty minutes by subway then twenty minutes by car
from the center of DC. The house is surrounded by
greenery and there are many large detached buildings
nearby. Mrs. F bought this model house for about 570
thousand dollars two years ago. This two-storied mansion
has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. The basement
is large enough for a day-care center.
But real life seemed not what they had in mind. She
said "I bought this house because I think having a
large house is to experience the American dream. But
I was surprised to see the heating bill of more than
four hundreds dollars last winter. Furthermore, it is
too large for me to find my child crying."
