前回の編集後記で書きました、先週の「ハートで感じる英文法 会話編」
について。テーマは疑問詞、関係詞でした。
wh語が文章のGAPを埋めるというネイティブの感覚のお話でした。
今日の日向先生のビジネス英語雑記帳に疑問詞を使った疑問文
の作り方について書かれています。
疑問詞で始まる疑問文での語順、あやふやじゃありませんか？（英語の落とし穴の４）
「ハートで感じる」に通じるものを感じました。

■意味を考えてみよう。答えは以下で

■すっきりこないこーなー
Some people use them to look important.
のlook がすっきりきません。
「自分を偉そうに見せるために使う人もいます」という訳です。
ただ、しっくりこないだけです。

──────────────────────────────
The movers and shakers in a place or area of activity are
the people who have most power or influence.
フレーズ辞典より。
movers and shakers 〔口語〕〈政治・経済の〉有力者
Managers who are afraid to make high-risk business decisions
can never be movers and shakers.
リスクが高いビジネス上の決断を下すことを恐れるようなマネージャーは，
決して大物にはなれない．

●dote on 「…をむやみにかわいがる」

If you sat that someone dotes on a person or a thing,
you mean that they love or care about them very much and
ignore any faults they may have.
dote on one's child(ren) ［子煩悩］

●amount to 「要するに…である、…に等しいものになる」
──────────────────────────────
If you say that one thing amounts to something else, you
consider the first thing to be the same as the second thing.

「あいつはものになる」のように人について言う場合にも、またidea
（構想）、plan、project（計画）などについても使える。
「結果として何ものかになる」の意。

If you summon someone, you order them to come to you. [FORMAL]
summonは「召喚する、呼び出す」
「勇気を奮い起こす」という意味もあり。

どんなに懸命になっても，彼女は父親に「ノー」と言う勇気が出なかった

携帯電話はビジネスにおいてどのようなことに役立つのでしょうか。
これをみてserveとpurposeが関連ある使われ方をするのかなと、
E-DICを引いてみたらありました。
Consequently, I really think a letter from the director of
your laboratory would far better serve your purposes.
そこで、そちらの研究所の所長様からのお手紙のほうが、はるかに
ご意向に役立つと思います。
