私（本多）は分詞構文のことをよく理解していなかったようです。
この形は独立分詞構文といって、主節と従節の主語が異なるタイプでした。
したがって、和磨さんの解釈で間違いないということでした。

tallに「背筋を伸ばして」という副詞の意味がありました。
stand tall 自信たっぷりである

テキストP40の
「, present company not included.」の部分に関して、質問がございます。これは、分詞構文で、「, though present company are not included.」という意味に理解すれば宜しいのでしょうか？

本多さん、和麿さん、こんばんは、
三木です。
この場合は、分詞構文、present company not included.の主語は、
present companyであり、省略されていません。従って、このまま
でよいのです。
このpresent company not includedを、もっと分かりやすく、所謂、
分詞構文の形に書き直せば、present company not being included.
＝although present company is not included.
ということです。
分詞の主語と、文の主語が異なる場合には、分詞に、
「not includedの意味上の主語」この場合は、present companyと
いう主語をつけなければならないということです。
１）分詞の主語と文の主語が同じ場合
Having finished the work, I went home.
Havingの前にＩを置く必要がないし、置かないのが普通です。
２）分詞の主語と文の主語が異なる場合、
The work having been finished, I went home.
この場合、The workは省略できません。
私（本多）は分詞構文のことをよく理解していなかったようです。
