disapprove of them. If someone or something falls into
disfavour, people start to dislike or disapprove of them.

ex) He had escaped from Russia because his boss was in
disfavour with the ruling party.

act your age, 年相応に分別のあるふるまいをせよ
──────────────────────────────
If someone tells you to act your age, they are telling you
to behave in a way that is suitable for someone your age,
because they think your are behaving in a childish way.

To stave off an unpleasant event means to prevent it
happening.
NOTE: Avert is a more formal word for stave off.

──────────────────────────────
=extend
To prolong something means to make it last longer.
ex) Mr Chesler said foreign military aid was prolonging
the war.
